Offices, classrooms and the Falcon's Nest Apartments on the UTPB campus and CEED facility are connected to the campus Local Area Network (LAN). This network utilizes a combination of copper and fiber optic technologies to deliver high-speed data connections to all campus buildings. The Mesa Building, Visual Arts Building, and Library Lecture Center are currently served with 100 Mb/s switched ethernet with 1 Gb/s ethernet backbone transport. The campus LAN is also connected to the global Internet through the facilities of the Texas Higher Education Network (THENet). This Wide Area Network (WAN) is managed by the University of Texas System Office of Telecommunications Services (OTS). Working With the UT System's OTS and others; UT Permian Basin's IRD facilitates the interconnection and routing over one-hundred million bits of digital information per second through the central communications facility.
